About Amami Micro Water Boatman

A tiny aquatic true bug about 1mm long. Endemic to Japan, it is found in the Nansei Islands (Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima). Several related species are known within the same genus, including the more widespread Micronecta guttata, found from Hokkaido to Kyushu. It normally burrows into sand or fallen leaves, and swims away quickly when startled.

Please enjoy Amami's wildlife through photographs. Some species are protected by law or local ordinance, and capturing or removing them is prohibited.
