About Kawamura's Rice Frog

Body length 3-5 cm (males 2.9-4.5 cm, females 3.2-5.4 cm). Distributed from central Honshu westward, Shikoku, Kyushu, and the Nansei Islands. On Amami Oshima it is common in open wetlands near human settlements, such as rice paddies, fields, marshes, and puddles. The back is grayish brown to brown with dark mottling. Some individuals have a white stripe running down the middle of the back (a vertebral stripe). Its breeding season is longer than on Honshu (May to August). At night, especially after rain, it calls from the water's edge.
