Grows to about 2.5-4 cm. Breeds from April through October. Adaptable to habitats ranging from mountain streams to puddles in built-up areas, it is the most commonly seen frog on Amami Oshima. It calls especially vigorously on humid or rainy days. Males are a beautiful yellow, and their call is beautiful too.
