ABOUT
About Okinawa Pit Viper
Grows up to about 80 cm. Cold-tolerant, and on Amami Oshima it can be observed year-round. Once the rainy season ends and the weather turns hot, it is often seen at higher elevations. It feeds on small to medium-sized frogs, small mammals, and birds. It is commonly observed in places with plenty of frogs, such as rice paddies and slow-flowing streams. A coiled individual barely moves, but it will threaten you if you enter its territory. It is a venomous snake, so if bitten, go to a hospital immediately. Be careful not to step on it.
