About Amami Ishikawa's Frog

Said to be Japan's most beautiful frog, it is designated a Natural Monument and a Nationally Rare Wild Species in Kagoshima Prefecture, and capturing or transferring it — including its eggs — is prohibited. In some spots near higher-elevation streams, its call can be heard after dark, and at certain locations it can even be seen in summer when it rains.
