ABOUT
About Amami Deer Stag Beetle
Active from around May through September, most easily seen around August. Collecting is prohibited by ordinance. Areas of relatively higher elevation offer a better chance of finding it. It is often found on thin branches of Castanopsis sieboldii or citrus trees. In large individuals the mandibles curve strongly, like a deer's antlers. Take care not to mistake it for a small individual of the lesser stag beetle or sawtooth stag beetle and take it home by accident (never take home an individual you can't identify yourself).
