ABOUT
About Amami Roundwing Stag Beetle
Active from around September through October, it can be observed deep in forests dense with giant Castanopsis sieboldii trees. Collecting is prohibited under the rare wildlife protection ordinances of five municipalities on Amami Oshima (including its outlying islands) and three towns on Tokunoshima. To prevent poaching, cameras have been set up in the mountains, and insect patrols make rounds during the season. Note: simply taking photographs is fine, but if you need to enter an area that requires a permit, be sure to apply properly.
