About Two-spotted Minute Diving Beetle

A tiny diving beetle said to bear two spots on its elytra, as its species name (meaning "two-spotted") suggests. It is said to be distinguished from closely related species by its smaller body and the incomplete microreticulation on its head. It is found across the Nansei Islands, from the Tokara Islands through the Amami island group to Okinawa Island, and is listed as Near Threatened (NT) on the Ministry of the Environment's insect Red List. Primary sources on its detailed ecology and morphology are scarce.

Please enjoy Amami's wildlife through photographs. Some species are protected by law or local ordinance, and capturing or removing them is prohibited.
