About Blue Glassy Tiger

A milkweed butterfly with pale blue markings, gliding gracefully and unhurriedly through the air. Found from Amami Oshima southward, its larvae feed on Marsdenia tinctoria. On winter days when the temperature drops below 15°C, hundreds can be seen clustering together to overwinter in the forests of the island's valleys — a well-known winter scene on Amami Oshima.

Observation Safety Notes

Please enjoy Amami's wildlife through photographs. Some species are protected by law or local ordinance, and capturing or removing them is prohibited. In special protection zones within the national park, collecting any wildlife is prohibited entirely. Please check the notes on this page, and confirm local rules before visiting any site.
