Into Amami's Night Forest
Amami Oshima became a World Natural Heritage site for its creatures found nowhere else — and most of them come out at night. We walk through the night forest together, searching for the creatures that call Amami home — the Amami rabbit, Amami's endemic frogs, the Habu, and more. Depending on the forest's mood and the animals' movements that night, we take our time and enjoy the observation at a relaxed pace. Guiding is in Japanese, with a translation app to help along the way.

Meeting Point
Meeting Point & Pickup
We meet at the Big 2 parking lot, the parking lot on the right just past the Asato Tunnel coming from Naze, or the Kuroshio no Mori Mangrove Park parking lot.
As a rough guide, we meet around 7:30 PM in summer and around 7 PM in winter. We'll let you know the exact time when you book.
Pickup is available from hotels around Naze and Tatsugo. If you don't have a car, or you're not comfortable driving at night, please feel free to ask us about pickup.

From overseas: +81 80-4058-4466
For urgent inquiries, a phone call is the most reliable. We're often out of cell signal in the mountains and may not answer. If so, please reach us via official LINE or the contact form instead.
Official LINE
For a quick, casual question.
Contact Form
For those who'd like to write out the details. We usually reply within 2 days. If possible, please let us know a few preferred dates.
Submitting the form does not confirm your booking. We'll check availability and get back to you.
On Rainy Days
Rainy days are a great chance for encounters, as frogs and snakes become more active. We'd love for you to search with us for the creatures that only the damp, rain-soaked night forest reveals.
However, if the rain or wind is too strong, we may cancel the tour for safety. If the tour is cancelled, we'll contact you by the evening of the tour day.
What to Wear & Bring
The night forest is dark underfoot, with plenty of grass and branches, so please wear long pants in any season.
We'll prepare rubber boots for you, so please tell us your shoe size when you book. We may not have very small sizes. In that case, please wear comfortable sneakers.
In summer, thin long pants and a light windbreaker you can easily throw on will keep you comfortable. In winter, it gets cold at night, so we recommend warm clothing that blocks the wind, such as rainwear.
A camera or smartphone and a flashlight will make observing and taking photos even more enjoyable.
Our Guiding Policy
We believe Amami's wildlife is best enjoyed through photographs. For this reason, we do not offer guiding for the purpose of collecting. Thank you for your understanding.
Meeting Wildlife in the Wild
This is a tour to search for wild animals, so we can't guarantee you'll see any particular species. What you'll encounter depends on that day's weather, the season, and the state of the forest. We hope you'll enjoy the time spent with whatever wildlife you meet, wherever and whenever that may be. Listening for the calls of creatures echoing through the night forest — such as the Ryukyu Scops Owl, Amami Ishikawa's Frog, and the Ryukyu Long-haired Rat — is another joy of the night tour. If the weather is good, you can also enjoy a sky full of stars.
Feel Free to Ask About the Tour
